We are known as the Livable Forest and in 1971 the Friendswood Development Company adopted the community and named it after King Ranch which is one of the first developers in the area. The community is divided into twenty one "planned" villages and each has their own association, varying style and numerous price ranges. Villages in Kingwood comprise Barrington, Bear Branch, Elm Grove, Fosters Mill, Fosters Mill Estates, Greentree, Greentree Manor, Hunters Ridge, Kings Crossing, Kings Forest, Kings Forest Estates, Kings Point, Kings River, Kingwood Glen Manor, Kingwood Greens, Kingwood Lakes, Kingwood Place, Mills Branch, North Woodland Hills, Riverchase, Royal Shores, Sand Creek, Sherwood Trails, South Woodland Hills, Town Center, Trailwood, and Woodstream. Each village has a neighborhood pool providing free access for village residents, and provides their own set of village-specific services through their associations.

The area exists harmoniously with the wooded acreage and is surrounded by tall pine trees and magnolias as well as about 20 other types of shade trees. We are also happy to tell you about our over 500 acres of private nature preserves and parks. River Grove Park is off of Woodlands Hills Drive just south of Kingwood Drive. They have a boat launch into Lake Houston with fishing, picnic areas and even a soccer field! Deer Ridge Park is is just down the street also off of Woodlands Hills Drive and offers a duck pond, sports fields and tennis courts. East End Park is a nature preserve and can be reached from the far East end of Kingwood Drive. Lake Houston State Park is about 10 miles away from Kingwood and it has 4,920 acres of lush green campsites, biking, hiking, and horseback riding, (Although you have to bring your own horse!) All through Kingwood you can walk, bike and exercise among the natural trails known as the GreenBelt. This is 75 miles of interconnected trails throughout the area. The weather in Kingwood ranges in the daytime from the mid 60´s to high 70´s from November to April and 80´s and 90´s from May to October. The lows at night can get into the 40´s in the winter months going up to the 50´s and 60´s in spring. Summer months stays in the 70´s at night. The winter months are the usual time for precipitation but in 1984 Kingwood received 6.97 inches of rain in the month of June! Bring your umbrella! It´s those days that help keep everything so lovely and green.
Kingwood is thriving when it comes to commercial centers. Big name retail shops and favorite restaurants call Kingwood home. Town Center on North Main Street provides the latest in your shopping experience as well as numerous community events including a car show and Mardi Gras, check it out!
Kids in the Harris County area attend Humble Independent School District and Kingwood High School. While children in the Montgomery County portion attend New Caney Independent School District. For leisure hours you can be sure a good time will be had by all at the two private golf clubs in Kingwood; Deerwood Club and Kingwood Country Club as well as many different organizations to volunteer and become involved with.
Humble The Observer is the local newspaper in the area you can find up to the minute news and events happening in Kingwood and surrounding areas.
You can come to Kingwood from anywhere in the world as the Bush Intercontinental Airport is only fifteen minutes away. The Metro also has a Park and Ride location in Kingwood just in case you would like the already smooth commute to be handled by someone else doing the driving!
