In 1838 William Pierpoint established a trading post at Spring Creek selling all manner of provisions for passersby. By 1840 people were starting to stay and the town hit a population of 153! Sugar Cane and cotton were being farmed by a small group of German immigrants and soon others took notice and produced vegetables. There was of coarse a sugar mill producing yummy syrup and 2 cotton gins.
The Houston and Great Northern Railroad thought this town had what it takes to become a new community in the region and laid tracks in 1871 through the town. Spring was so popular that the railroads decided to make it a switch yard with 14 tracks and 200 rail workers. In early 1910 the population was up to 1200. What an exciting time to be alive in Spring Texas! In 1912 the Spring Bank opened it´s doors only to be robbed several times by the 1930´s. It is rumored that Bonnie and Clyde once robbed the Spring Bank, but no evidence survives to back this claim. Much more exciting to believe the rumor anyway! Once Houston started to become a major city the railroad companies moved their yards there. Population declined for awhile but grew steady into the 1970´s when much development started to see the city come to life again.
Older homes were restored to quaint little Victorian shops and the 1980´s brought about The Old Town Spring Association whose vision it was to keep the history intact while bringing commerce to the town. They had great success and today Old Town Spring is a major attraction with over 80 unique shops for the visitors to browse. Old Town Spring hosts five major festivals each year: Springfest Wine & Art Festival in March , Celebration of Easter in April, 20th Annual Texas Crawfish & Music Festival in the last two weeks of April , the Long Horn Rod Run in late September, and Down Home Christmas in November and December. All of these events are well organized and beautifully done.
